Work starts on Saunders’ luxury Caribbean homes crafted with lava rock into the hillside.

Saunders have designed four luxury homes on Lanse aux Epines on the Caribbean island of Grenadabin the West Indies, two elegant four bedroom three storey villas with sea views and bespoke bungalows. All are set in a lush landscape surrounding swimming pools and feature sustainability as a key part of the development. The villas and two bungalows have been carefully crafted to sit within the hillside and exploit sea views of the bay around Lanse aux Epines. Locally sourced lava rock and local termite resistant timber are being carefully used for the homes to ensure sustainability is at the forefront of each build. Construction will commence in March 2021.

The buildings will be naturally ventilated using discreetly designed ventilation zones to each room linked to the central full height stair well to provide “stack effect” natural ventilation.

Martin Williams of Saunders said:

“This has been a challenging and exciting project working with local people and local sustainable materials on this wonderful island. We have to design the homes very differently to those in the UK with careful consideration to climate, materials, construction techniques and local ways of living. It has been a massively rewarding experience to realise our Clients dream of providing a beautiful but truly ‘local’ sustainable development.”

The projects are due to complete in summer 2022.
