This Recoup online CPD introduces Waste Water Heat Recovery for Showers (WWHRS). A passive, demand-reduction technology that can be easily designed into buildings with showers to help reduce energy demand and CO2 emissions. This simple, cost-effective heat exchanger technology is simple to design in, easy to install, requires no user interaction, no planned maintenance, no change to the showering experience, and can save up to 60% of the energy per shower use.

How does Recoup WWHRS Works?
The warm shower water that has only lost a few degrees of temperature runs through the Recoup WWHRS, up to 90% of shower heat energy goes down the drain. The heat exchanger transfers heat energy from the warm shower water to incoming cold mains water preheating it. This preheated water reaches around 25°C and is sent to the cold side of the shower and/or water heater in the property. This provision of water at an increased temperature reduces the demand for hot water in the shower, meaning less energy is needed to produce the hot water temperature required.
