Enfield Council has submitted an Outline Planning Application for the former Middlesex University site and High Street Frontage in Ponders End. This milestone is the culmination of several years work, where the local community has been actively engaged.

Plans were developed by Karakusevic Carson Architects and Maccreanor Lavington Architects, were considered by the Council’s Planning Committee on 29th January 2013 and Granted Approval subject to Conditions and referral to the Greater London Authority.

The Electric Quarter plans enable the conversion of the Grade II Listed Broadbent Building into affordable workspace, capturing the essence of Enfield’s industrial heritage, most notably that of Joseph Swan, who lived locally on Ponders End High Street and pioneered the invention of the electric light bulb, which informs the name of the Quarter.
