Weston Williamson successfully completed the design of this housing development by comprising a high quality mixed-use development on a prominent but tight island site along Jamaica Road. Commercial use occupies the ground floor level with 38 residential units above. The brief from our client was to design a building that is contemporary and which is appropriate to the local context. We have achieved this by designing a building that wraps around the sides of the triangular site, maintaining and continuing existing building lines and positively defining street edges.
This central court is protected from the noise of the road. The outer façade comprises bands of brickwork, glazing and fixed panels. In contrast the inner façade defines a more contained space with perforated vertical fins, and allow views and sunlight to filter in and informal supervision of the space outside. The project was completed in 2010.
