Vent-Axia Named as Finalist in Housebuilder Awards

Ventilation industry leader Vent-Axia is delighted to be a finalist in the ‘Product of the Year’ category at the prestigious Housebuilder Awards 2020. Vent-Axia’s Lo-Carbon Sentinel Kinetic Cooker Hood, which improves indoor air quality (IAQ) and so helps households stay healthy, is on the shortlist following winning the Kitchen and Bathrooms category at the Housebuilder Product Awards earlier this year.

With COVID-19 bringing renewed focus to the air we breathe, products that improve IAQ and extract polluted air are more vital than ever as we spend an unprecedented amount of time at home. Earlier this year in January 2020 the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) confirmed the importance of good IAQ in its guidance ‘Indoor Air Quality at Home’. In the document NICE explains the critical role ventilation plays in removing pollutants and improving IAQ in the home, helping people to stay healthy.

This document includes guidance calling for building design strategies to include provision to remove indoor air pollutants by installing cooker hoods or kitchen extractor fans. A cooker hood is vital when undertaking any cooking, since cooking can generate unhealthy air pollutants, making IAQ plummet. Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) provides the highest levels of indoor IAQ and energy efficiency of any ventilation. However, for smaller properties there can be difficulties fitting in a traditional MVHR unit. Vent-Axia’s Sentinel Kinetic Cooker Hood overcomes this by combining MVHR and cooker hood in one making it the ideal solution for smaller properties. The unit fits in a kitchen cupboard and provides all the benefits of MVHR, plus extract from above the kitchen hob, saving valuable space. This allows housebuilders to use MVHR throughout developments, with even smaller homes benefitting, improving build quality.

Jenny Smith, Head of Marketing at Vent-Axia explains,

“We are really thrilled to have reached the final of the ‘Product of the Year’ category at the Housebuilder Awards. The Awards honour innovation and excellence in UK house building, we are therefore very proud that our products have been recognised in these prestigious awards. Being a finalist at these awards confirms the importance of products that tackle indoor air pollution and demonstrates Vent-Axia’s commitment to good indoor air quality and public health. The Sentinel Kinetic Cooker Hood is the ideal solution for removing harmful particles created during cooking and other household activities whilst improving IAQ and helping households stay healthy.”

The Sentinel Kinetic Cooker Hood combines a cooker hood with MVHR in one and so is the perfect choice for compact developments. The unit works seamlessly as an MVHR unit supplying energy efficient ventilation, filtering out pollutants and contaminants from the air entering a home, helping provide a healthy indoor environment. Then when the cooker hood is needed, it’s pulled out to provide a 100% purge of fumes, removing steam and smells from cooking.

The Sentinel Kinetic Cooker Hood is designed to fit in a 600mm wide aperture above a hob and so fits inside a kitchen unit for a seamless finish. With the highest rating on SAP PCDB in its class, the Sentinel Kinetic Cooker Hood is very energy efficient. The unit offers an integral humidity sensor option that increases speed in proportion to relative humidity levels, saving energy and reducing noise. An integrated digital controller provides simple and accurate commissioning as well as important end-user information such as filter-maintenance reminders and the summer bypass trigger temperature.

This year the Housebuilder Awards ceremony will be an imaginative virtual event, held on the afternoon of Thursday 3rd December and bringing the house building industry together online to celebrate the very best.
