SILKA ‘big blocks’ – more than just quicker build times

SILKA calcium silicate ‘big blocks’, in sizes up to 1000 mm x 645 mm, are used for load bearing, non-load bearing and inner leaf cavity walls.

Unlike SIPS or blockwork and frame, a 2-man team can lay 60m2 / day, a single leaf 150mm thick wall providing an acoustic value of 50-55dB compared to 44dB for an unfinished 140mm aircrete block. A 120 minute fire rating compares to SIPS at 30-60, while calcium silicate’s thermal mass enables blocks to absorb heat and release it slowly, helping maintain a healthy living environment. Blocks are laid into a thin joint mortar from the building interior, saving on scaffolding costs.
