Pupils get lesson in house building from Kier Living

Budding young builders have been given a lesson in house building by the experts at Kier Living, who invited pupils from Wygate Park Academy to its Kingfisher Court development in Spalding.

The visit saw 37 reception students and their teachers spend a morning at the housing development where they met staff and learnt about how to stay safe on building sites during a tour that included a demonstration of a forklift truck in action.

Wygate Park Academy opened its doors to students for this first time in September when it welcomed nearly 40 local children to the school, which was built on 2.5 acres of land donated by Kier Living.

Annabel O’Connell, head of Wygate Park Academy, said:

“All the children had an amazing time and have been talking about it a lot this week. The whole trip was really well planned and managed and the activities that were put on for the children were really engaging.”

Rob Crossland, Kier Living construction manager, added:

“It was fantastic to welcome the children to Kingfisher Court and to meet Wygate Park Academy’s first students. And you never know, maybe the visit will have inspired a few to consider a career in the house building industry when they grow up!”
