Practical points – SterlingOSB Zero StrongFix

How does SterlingOSB Zero StrongFix compare to ply?

SterlingOSB Zero can be used for all the same structural applications that plywood can be used for, and as SterlingOSB Zero is made in the UK, the finished board is very competitively priced as it doesn’t have to travel here like plywood does. New SterlingOSB Zero StrongFix is an OSB panel designed to be used in drylining applications. It is simple to fit, highly versatile and ideal for fixing cabinets, radiators, wash basins, railings and other heavy fixtures to stud walls. It is cut to size to fit within c-stud sections, has a pre-groove already cut and has zero knots meaning the strength of the board is maintained throughout.

What does a builder need to buy to go with it?

The product uses the same fixings as normal OSB – l-shaped steel frame, c-stud self-tapping dry-wall screws.

Can it be used with timber stud?

StrongFix can only be used with c-stud sections.

Is it a finished board?

As it will be fitted behind plasterboard, the panel is not finished as it will not be seen.

What widths does it come in?

StrongFix is available in 2400mm x 597mm.

Does it compare favourably to specialist plasterboards that carry/hold additional weight?

These types of plasterboard are not an equivalent product as they only hold up to 15kg whilst StrongFix can hold up to 400kg due to the inherent strength of the board thanks to the manufacturing process.

Has the board passed standards?

StrongFix is independently tested to BS5234-2; the criteria is on the product information sheet at http://norbord.co.uk/products/sterlingosb/sterling-strongfix/
