Olympians to train at Leeds sports complex

A refurbished sports facility in Yorkshire is attracting some of Britain’s top athletes.

University of Leeds is updating its Sports Park Weetwood Pavilion to include a 1.6km tarmac cycle track which will become British Triathlon’s training base, attracting the likes of the medal-winning Brownlee brothers to the area.

The transformed pavillion will provide physiotherapy and support services to GB athletes in Leeds as well as grass pitches for university staff and students.

Partly funded by Sport England, British Cycling and UK Sport, the £5m refurbishment is currently being developed by Houlton, with Jefferson Sheard responsible for the technical delivery.

The project is due to be completed this autumn.
