New Schueco guide will assist in obtaining BREEAM certification

With sustainability becoming increasingly important in the design and construction of new buildings, Schueco has produced a Guide and comprehensive set of documents to assist architects in the selection of Schueco aluminium windows, doors and façades best suited for BREEAM projects.

BREEAM has over 200,000 buildings currently certified with another 700,000 registered, making it the world’s most widely used standard for best practice in sustainable design. As well as explaining the fundamental aspects of BREEAM and the scoring system, the Guide demonstrates the influence Schueco products can have on the various BREEAM categories where credits are scored – the main ones being Management, Health and Wellbeing, Energy, Materials and Waste.

The BREEAM concept is concerned with the whole life of a building from responsible disposal of materials from brown-field sites, through to final recycling at the end of the building’s life. Schueco describes this holistic approach, which covers the entire life-cycle of a building, as ‘360o sustainability’.

In addition, Schueco is able to offer specific project-related information such as EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) as part of supporting documentation. This provides data, for example, for GWP, ODP, energy use and water consumption for the specific products being manufactured.

Taken from Schueco’s powerful software system SchüCal 2014 – which creates manufacturing data – ‘U’ values and Declarations of Performance documents can also be produced at the touch of a button. So for every BREEAM project, Schueco UK can assist in selecting the optimum products for the desired outcome.
