Mactaggart & Mickel Homes expands presence in England with acquisition of two new Oxfordshire sites

Mactaggart & Mickel Homes England, part of the Mactaggart & Mickel Group, are progressing their expansion plans with the acquisition of two new development sites in the historic villages of Marcham (near Abingdon), and East Hagbourne (near Didcot), both in Oxfordshire.

The award-winning family housebuilder, which has been building homes in Scotland since 1925, received planning permission for its first English development last August at Milton under Wychwood in West Oxfordshire. Work is now well under way on a development of 62 new homes there, and is also about to begin on 38 new homes at East Challow, also in Oxfordshire.

  • The Marcham site, on the east side of Sheepstead Road just north of Kings Avenue, measures 6.5 acres and already has full planning permission in place for 47 high quality homes. Mactaggart & Mickel Homes England intend to begin work on site following approval on a new application, which includes Mactaggart & Mickel- designed houses.
  • The 8.7 acre site at East Hagbourne, which lies to the north of the village’s Main Road close to the village hall, has outline planning permission for 74 homes. The company aims to apply for full planning consent later this year, with a view to work commencing in 2019.

Mactaggart & Mickel Group have been involved in strategic land development in England since 2008, securing over 1200 acres across the North West and South West of England. Due to their expansion plans, the Group recently opened an office in Cheltenham, resulting in the creation of around 20 full time jobs for local people, with plans to employ more staff as growth continues.

Ed Monaghan, Chairman of Mactaggart & Mickel Homes England Ltd said:

“It has been fantastic to see our English expansion plans progressing so well, with one development already on site, another about to begin, and now the acquisition of two further sites in popular Oxfordshire, one of which already has planning consent in place.

“Similarly to our East Challow and Milton under Wychwood developments, we look forward to bringing our stunning new homes, with bespoke design, sympathetically created to fit into the local style and area.  We will also work with local suppliers to deliver quality new homes on these sites, contributing further to the Oxfordshire economy.”

Mactaggart & Mickel Homes have won over 100 National House Building Council (NHBC) awards, and most recently won the highly acclaimed Queen’s Award for Enterprise for their work as part of City Legacy, developers of the Athletes’ Village for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The company currently employs 279 members of staff across the UK and anticipates this will rise over the coming year.
