Londonewcastle launches The Otto: new parkside homes in the heart of Hackney

In collaboration with London Borough of Hackney, Londonewcastle is soon to launch 89 new homes at its latest development, The Otto. Overlooking one of east London’s most prominent parks, Hackney Downs, The Otto will provide private sale apartments as part of a mixed-use redevelopment on Downs Road.

Designed by architect Hawkins\Brown, The Otto launches this autumn to provide a mix of one, two, and three bedroom design-led apartments, as well as four penthouses. The apartments are located within two pavilions and offer extensive, panoramic views of the capital, as well as Hackney Downs.

The local landscape of the Downs has provided much of the design inspiration for colour finishes. A neutral palette of terracotta, vertical profiles is used as a decorative element throughout the facades. The interior colour choices reflect the seasonal changes meaning that mellow shades of green are used in the lobby, to create a dialogue with the outdoor surroundings.

Inside, all apartments feature brushed bronze and brass accessories, as they mirror the warmth of autumnal seasons. Natural tones run throughout with kitchens fitted with reconstituted stone worktops, neutral porcelain floor tiles with complementary grouting in the bathroom, and oak wood flooring throughout.

Each apartment has been designed to maximise views over the park, allowing boundaries between the landscape and indoors to blur. All duplex units on the ground floor feature a raised level, private garden with planting that compliments local horticulture and mimics local Victorian terraced houses.

Amenities include a concierge, multi-use ‘wellness’ rooms which can be booked via the concierge and a large fourth-floor communal terrace. A limited number of storage facilities at basement level will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Plus, cycling has been considered first and foremost with 174 cycle racks in the basement, a dedicated cycle entrance and visitor cycle racks outside the building.

The development will also provide a new home for Nightingale Primary School, which has been at the heart of the community for 20 years, housing state-of-the-art facilities for its pupils. Eleven outdoor spaces including a sports pitch and gardening area will encourage positive and creative development, and includes community-use spaces such as a sports multi-use games area.

The Otto is enviably positioned between Hackney’s most independent and creative areas, with Dalston and Stoke Newington to the west and Lower Clapton and Chatsworth Road to the east. London Fields and Broadway Market are within walking distance, continuing onwards to Shoreditch, Columbia Road and Old Street.

Further along the River Lea lies Walthamstow Marshes and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to the south east.
