Grand Designs Live to launch all-new feature ‘The Great British Box Room’ at London’s ExCeL

Every house has one, and they seem to be a uniquely British aspect to home design; The Box Room. Typically, this small room is left unused, forgotten or used as a dumping ground for the things that don’t fit anywhere else. The Great British Box Room Competition; a new series of 6 installations, each imagined by a different interior designer, will be on display only at Grand Designs Live, from 2 -10 May 2020. This brand-new, imaginative and exciting feature will aim to inspire visitors and encourage them to take home new ideas, information and supplier contacts.

Inviting British stylists from all over the UK to submit their creative designs to transform tiny spaces into useful and beautiful rooms for any home; showcasing the myriad of cultures, styles and influences that form the basis of British design today.

Aiming to attract a diverse range of creative and clever ideas to transform tiny spaces; designers will dress the rooms with products which are easily accessible to exhibition visitors and are either in stock or online from current retailers, manufacturers and designers.

This competition will focus on the increase in the use of unconventional spaces and Grand Designs Live are inviting pioneering interior stylists to come and bring their ideas to life at the show, using colour, materials, and patterns to achieve some impressive rooms, in small spaces.

Each room will have different purposes and uses, unique to each designer and their needs, ranging from a workspace, to an at home Gym or a playroom for the kids.

From the six finalists chosen from the entries submitted, the winner of the competition will be announced on the Grand Theatre at the show, with judges including Kevin McCloud, Jenny Gibbs of the KLC School of Design.
