GRAHAM-BAM Healthcare Partnership crowned as UK’s Most Considerate Site

GRAHAM-BAM Healthcare Partnership, a joint venture between GRAHAM Construction and BAM has won the Most Considerate Site at this year’s Considerate Constructors Scheme’s 2017 National Site Awards (in the category of projects with a value of £50m and over) for its work on Ulster Hospital Phase B2 – General Ward Block. In addition to the highest accolade, GRAHAM was also presented with five silver and two bronze awards for sites throughout the country.

The scheme’s national awards is one of the most respected accolades within the UK construction industry that recognises scheme-registered sites that have demonstrated the very highest level of consideration in respect of the community, environment and workforce.

In the grounds of a large operational hospital in Dundonald near Belfast, the work on Ulster Hospital Phase B2 – General Ward Block involves ongoing construction of a new, seven-storey ward building that will accommodate a procedural area on the ground floor with four upper floors of 288 en-suite bedrooms within 12 inpatient wards. The 30,000 sq m development has been designed to achieve the highest building and infection control standards.

Scheme Monitors’ praised the site for its attractive appearance and presentation, while keeping an appropriately low profile within the hospital environment. Engagement with schools, charities and other stakeholders has continued to leave a positive and lasting impression of the industry.

Environmentally, the project team’s approach reflects the highest levels of concern for protection and enhancement, which was well illustrated by a successful collaboration with the Northern Ireland Environment Agency. As the first Northern Ireland construction company to register with an adult learning forum, the site’s team took part in career events and applied the principles of Learning for Life when providing work opportunities and experience.

GRAHAM–BAM Healthcare Partnership Director Peter Reavey, said:

“This is a fantastic achievement for the team and reflects the hard work over the last four years. Ulster Hospital is a state-of-the-art building designed to provide specialist care at the highest level, and by drawing on our strong track record of delivering world-class medical facilities we are confident in our ability to deliver this important facility for the area and to the highest standard.”

Considerate Constructors Scheme Executive Chairman Isabel Martinson, said:

“Congratulations to all 2017 National Site Award winners. Winning an award with the Considerate Constructors Scheme is a huge achievement, as only the top-performing sites are eligible for such an accolade. The successes of award-winning sites demonstrate the importance of embedding the core principles of the Scheme’s Code of Considerate Practice, creating a positive long-term legacy for the local community, environment and workforce.”

In addition to winning Most Considerate Site at the awards, GRAHAM Construction won silver for its work on CPC Regeneration Scheme, North West Cambridge Development Lot 5, Gladstone Biomass, and Prince of Wales Pier Height Reduction and Enabling Works.
