DuPont™ Corian® from CDUK makes an impact for international lawyers

Glacier White Corian® from CDUK has been used to create a stunning centrepiece reception desk for the City of London office of international law firm Loyens and Loeff.

Designed by Louise Coombs at The Jones as part of a refurbishment scheme by Space Workplace Ltd, the dual purpose desk allows the secretarial team to work in privacy, while still being available to greet and guide visitors. The minimalist styling exudes calm and order, while backlighting adds to the professional and welcoming ambience.

The desk was fabricated by specialist manufacturers Martina Ltd. The entire front of the counter was clad in 6mm Glacier White Corian® with a feature backlit logo. To achieve the backlighting effect, the Corian® was bonded to an MDF substrate with routering through the MDF removing half the thickness of the Corian®, allowing light to pass through. In addition, the design specification called for privacy and visibility, so a grey slatted glass fin feature was created to act as a barrier to the door whilst maintaining line of sight.

All computer equipment was housed within the oversized Corian® desk and in keeping with the more contemporary style of the new scheme, the cherrywood storage wall at the rear of the desk was updated with white doors.
