Double success for East Thames in Top 50 UK Affordable Housing Developments competition

Two residential developments from housing association, East Thames have been named among the UK’s Top 50 Affordable Housing Developments 2014. The accolade, presented by Inside Housing Magazine in association with the Homes and Communities Agency recognises the work of the very best in quality, affordable housing.

Dreywood Court, recognised jointly with the development’s building contractor, Willmott Dixon was also ranked as one of the top five specialist schemes at the award ceremony on 3 April. Designed by Penoyre Prasad architects and developed in partnership with the London Borough of Havering, the development offers 98 apartments for social rent and shared ownership for those aged 55 and over. Onsite personal care and support is also available at the scheme for those who need it, along with a wide range of communal facilities and activities which aim to create a sense of community and independence.

Hammond Court, designed by mæ architects, developed by East Thames and built by Hill Partnerships was ranked in the top five for sustainable schemes as well as being included in the overall Top 50 list. The development has seen the transformation of a rundown 35 home 1970s estate in Waltham Forest into 43 affordable homes. The homes range from one to five bedrooms including large family houses and maisonettes overlooking a secure landscaped courtyard. Both schemes are part funded by the Mayor of London.

The prestigious top 50 list was officially unveiled at a ceremony in London last night where key players from across the sector met to celebrate the best in affordable housing.

Trevor Burns, Interim Director of Development, East Thames said,

“We’re delighted that we made the top 50 list with not just one, but two very different developments, each one providing spacious, affordable housing. It’s important to us to build quality homes that people can afford and being recognised for that commitment is an honour.”

David Issott, Managing Director, Willmott Dixon Housing said,

“Working with East Thames on Dreywood Court has been a rewarding experience. The scheme is testament to Willmott Dixon and East Thames’ commitment to building quality and innovative housing.”
