Design and build teams have been appointed to refurbish and redevelop a grade II listed bus station in Preston, Lancashire.
Local firms Cassidy + Ashton and Conlon Construction along with Keepmoat will team up on the John Puttick-designed project.
The transport hub, an example of Brutalist architecture, will be refurbished by local firm Conlon Construction.
Community regeneration and construction specialist Keepmoat is in line to build a 2,600 m² Youth Zone, which will provide a wide range of programmes, services and activities including sports, arts, music, employability and mentoring.
Cassidy + Ashton is providing planning services to both schemes alongside architect John Puttick, with the Preston-based firm also designing the car park.
Alban Cassidy, chartered town planning and environmental consultant at Cassidy + Ashton, said:
“We’re very excited to be working on these projects – particularly because it’s on our doorstep and is of great interest to many people, not just those living locally. The programme has been very challenging but we have had the opportunity to work with some highly skilled organisations which has made the whole project incredibly rewarding.”
“As a Prestonian I have always been proud of the bus station and I am delighted to be able to play a small part in ensuring it will remain for the benefit of future generations.”
The projects within the overall development programme will be subject to planning permission being granted.
