A new housing development in Burrough Green is set to provide energy efficient affordable new homes for six local families when completed later this year.
The new homes are being developed by Sanctuary Group at the site opposite Sheriffs Court in a £767,000 scheme part funded by the Homes and Communities Agency. Each of the six houses has been designed to meet Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4, making them more energy efficient and helping to keep running costs low for future residents.
They will be built by contractor Youngs Homes who are also working in partnership with Sanctuary to build 19 new properties at The Gardens in Ely and two new homes in Maryland Avenue, Swaffham Bulbeck, due to complete this summer.
Representatives from East Cambridgeshire District Council and Burrough Green Parish Council joined Sanctuary and Youngs Homes on site in Burrough Green on Wednesday 16 April to take a closer look at the new development as work got underway.
Mark Osborne, Sanctuary’s Project Manager:
“Sheriffs Court is a small but significant scheme, set to provide a mix of six high quality family homes for local people to rent. Each home will be built to a high sustainability rating, good news for the environment and for those moving in who will benefit from lower energy and water bills.
“We welcome this interest in the scheme from local partners and look forward to showing them the completed properties later in the year.”
Karen Freya, Principal Housing Officer (Strategy & Development) at East Cambridgeshire District Council, said:
“It is great to see this development progressing as East Cambridgeshire continues to grow. It is also especially encouraging to see energy efficient homes being built to ensure future occupants have low fuel costs in the years to come.”
Richard King from Youngs Homes added:
“We are thrilled to be working in partnership with Sanctuary on this fantastic new development to provide housing for local families. Over the course of the build, to assist the local community, we will be carrying out some work in the village as well.”
The Sheriffs Court development includes four 2-bedroom and two 3-bedroom houses due for completion towards the end of this year. The new homes will be made available on an affordable rental basis to people who live in Burrough Green or who have a connection to the village.
