Broadway Malyan invest £1m in UK studio strategy

Broadway Malyan’s Reading team has relocated to new high-profile studio in the heart of the town as part of a million pound investment programme by the practice.

The practice has taken 430sqm on the 5th floor of the RIBA award-winning Thames Tower building opposite Reading railway station for a new studio which it will share with Nexus Planning.

The move is part of a major investment programme by the practice that includes relocating to a new London studio in early 2019 as well as renewing the lease on its Birmingham city centre studio with the addition of a new dedicated modelling workshop.

UK chairman Ian Apsley said the investment in new studio space was a vote of confidence in the UK business and an important part of ensuring the practice remained competitive in an increasingly crowded marketplace.

He said:

“Broadway Malyan has recently celebrated its 60th anniversary and if we are to thrive for another 60 years then providing inspiring studio environments that support our colleagues wellbeing is absolutely paramount.

“A combination of a series of lease ends and the realisation that some of our studio space no longer met the needs of a modern architectural practice gave us the opportunity to examine our UK studio strategy and the Reading move is the first stage of an incredibly exciting period for the practice.

“Reading has long been one of most successful studios and this move to Reading’s most high profile business address is a real statement of intent for the practice in a town where the long term potential from the arrival of Crossrail is clear.

“We will also be relocating our London studio to a new standalone building in early 2019, which offers us a fantastic opportunity to create an exemplary workplace that will help us continue to integrate our different teams and allow us to continue deliver the highest quality projects for our clients.

“We have also signed a new lease on our Birmingham studio and we are currently looking at options for a new larger studio space in Manchester, reinforcing our commitment to two of the UK’s most exciting cities and providing the practice with a spine of studios that allows us to service clients across the UK.”
